John
Lloyd Leonard was born with
aortic valve stenosis, but was growing
up as a normal little boy. The doctors
were very positive and optimistic
with his progress and behavior. As
John grew older, however, his heart
complications worsened at a rapid
rate. John was admitted to Children’s Hospitals
and Clinics - Minneapolis March 26,
2002 and had emergency open heart
surgery two days later. He fought
through several complications, making
very slow progress due to his poor
cardiac output. After almost three
months in the Pediatric Intensive
Care Unit (PICU), his heart stopped.
He was revived by the super medical
staff at Children’s. We knew
his little heart would not keep him
alive for much longer. We decided
to go to St. Louis Children’s
Hospital (one of the best places
in the world for pediatric heart
transplants) on June 26th to await
a heart transplant. John continued
to struggle and his little heart
fought as long as it could, but it
finally had enough on July 5th. John
Lloyd is now an angel in heaven.
He has touched the lives of so many
people and memories of him will live
on forever. We will never forget
that beautiful smile!
